Four Seasons Hotel Milano Ups its Chic Ante

May. 12th, 2022

A recent, super chic renovation of the already elegant Four Seasons Hotel Milano reveals an urban sanctuary wholly befitting of its location in the heart of Italy’s fashion capital. Located on iconic Via Gesu in the Quadrilatero d'Oro (Golden Quadrilateral) - Milan’s famed fashion and design district - the hotel and its discreet entrance are flanked by some of the most desirable names in retail: Cartier, Brioni, Goyard, and Acqua di Parma. Just around the corner on famed Via Napoleone one finds Fendi, Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Brunello Cucinelli, and virtually every other high end retailer one might summon in the pursuit of retail therapy. The hotel’s proximity to such glamour is well illustrated in the flair of its stylish clientele found gracing the velvet couches and cognac leather armchairs of lobby bar Stilla, a favorite gathering spot for both locals and visitors.

This is a hotel at which to see and be seen, and what fun that is. You never know who will walk through the door, making an entrance on their way to Zelo, the hotel’s flagship restaurant helmed by the talented Fabrizio Borraccino. Those seeking a bit of privacy will move through the chic lobby to Camino, the cozy, fireplace-centered lounge where a DJ spins dulcet beats and the hotel’s sommelier has curated a prized list of some of the best Italian wines.

‘Renovation’ takes on a different meaning in Italy, where the desire to retain the charm and artistry of centuries old buildings melds with the need and desire for modern amenities. At Four Seasons Hotel Milano, the building’s former life as a 15th century convent is evident in the original frescoes that continue to dominate particular walls. It is evident in stone accents and pillars, in vaulted ceilings, and in the beautifully manicured, central Cloister Garden, once a monastic common harboring herbs and greens. But the throwback vibes end there. Curated contemporary artworks are stylishly juxtaposed within the classic ambiance. 118 architecturally unique and timelessly designed rooms and suites are tailored to current tastes; spacious white marble bathrooms feature rain showers and Acqua di Parma amenities. Wide screen televisions are poised towards sumptuous Four Seasons Beds. Casement windows open to the Cloister Garden breezes, while on warmer days, a central AC system keeps things cool.

One of the hotel’s most decadent amenities is its Patricia Urquiola-designed spa. This subterranean haven, located in what was once the convent’s cellar, features seven treatment rooms, and an unusual and captivating 46-foot lap pool underneath 19th century vaulted ceilings, adjacent to which is a dimly lit relaxation room with chaise lounges. It’s romantic and sublime, and the perfect spot to unwind after a day of touring the nearby Duomo Cathedral, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, and Piazza Scala.

Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner at the hotel’s flagship restaurant Zelo where Executive Chef Borraccino offers sophisticated, locally-sourced, sustainable, and seasonal Mediterranean fare with options that appeal to all palates. Originally from the Abruzzo region of Italy, Borraccino enlivens his signature dishes with the tradition and innovations of his native cuisine. Save room for pastry chef Daniele Bonzi’s unique Tiramisu with ‘two ways’ Mascarpone cream, coffee-soaked Savoiardi Biscuits and middle layer of crisp chocolate. Dine inside, or out on the airy veranda surrounded by tailored boxwoods and rose bushes.

Limited hotel options exist in this fashion and design capital of the world that match the stylish flair of the region. Four Seasons Hotel Milano not only matches the elegance of its host city and neighborhood, it serves to elevate its fashionable surroundings with a panache that few other hotel brands can replicate. Add to all of this a friendly, service oriented staff that aims to please, and your Milan hotel choice is made even easier.
